Penalaran adaptif dan kompetensi strategis menjadikan belajar matematika tidak hanya berorientasi pada hasil akhir, tetapi juga mengarah pada proses berpikir logis, reflektif dan bermakna. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis penalaran adaptif dan kompetensi strategis mahasiswa calon guru laki-laki pendidikan matematika berdasarkan kemampuan matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Calon subjek penelitian adalah Mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan matematika kelas A11 Semester genap Tahun Ajaran 2024/2025. Subjek penelitian dipilih secara purposif, yaitu 3 mahasiswa laki-laki terdiri dari masing-masing 1 berkemampuan matematika tinggi, sedang dan rendah. Data kemampuan matematika diperoleh melalui tes. Masalah matematika divalidasi ahli oleh 2 pakar ilmu Pendidikan matematika dan 1 guru matematika. Masalah matematika yang digunakan adalah soal tidak rutin berupa soal cerita kontektual yang tercakup di dalamnya secara tersirat adalah konsep lingkaran, konsep trigonometri, dan konsep segitiga siku-siku. Teknik keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi metode, yaitu dokumen hasil pengerjaan dan wawancara, dan juga menggunakan teknik kelengkapan referensi.Setelah dokumen hasil memecahkan masalah terkumpul maka dokumen tersebut di analisis, yaitu dengan tahap reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Kemampuan mahasiswa calon guru laki-laki bervariasi dalam memformulasi konteks masalah matematika bergantung pada tingkat kemampuan matematikanya. Mahasiswa berkemampuan tinggi mampu mengubah situasi masalah ke dalam bentuk representasi visual yang logis melalui strategi dekomposisi, namun pemahaman konseptualnya terhadap konteks masih belum menyeluruh. berkemampuan sedang cenderung menggunakan strategi identifikasi informasi dengan fokus pada pengenalan unsur dasar masalah. Mahasiswa berkemampuan rendah menunjukkan ketelitian dalam menggambar dan memiliki pengetahuan awal terhadap konsep dasar, namun belum dapat mengintegrasikan konsep-konsep matematika secara utuh dalam pemahaman konteks masalah
