Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari kemampuan komunikasi matematis berdasarkan kemampuan matematika pada materi program linear. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Calon subjek berasal dari salah satu Sekolah Menengah Atas Swasta tingkat XI di pinggiran kota Makassar. Subjek dipilih yang komunikatif dan berdasarkan kemampuan matematikanya dengan mengacu pada rentang nilai KKM di sekolah tersebut. peneliti sebagai instrumen utama menggunakan instrumen pendukung berupa pedoman wawancara yang divalidasi oleh dua validator. Teknik analisis meliputi mereduksi data, menyajikan data, serta penarikan kesimpulan (verifikasi). Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik keabsahan data triangulasi waktu dan kelengkapan referensi. Hasil penelitian adalah subjek berkemampuan matematika tinggi memiliki kemampuan komunikasi terkait konsep dan fakta yang benar tetapi tidak sistematis, memberikan contoh benar, menjelaskan ide matematika terkait prosedur yang benar tetapi tidak detail. Subjek berkemampuan sedang memiliki kemampuan komunikasi terkait konsep dan fakta yang tidak tepat karena menggunakan kalimat prosedur penyelesaian soal, tidak memberikan contoh yang tepat tetapi menggunakan ciri umum dan kalimat instruksi penyelesaian soal sebagai contoh, menjelaskan ide matematika terkait prosedur penyelesaian soal dengan tidak benar karena lebih menggunakan kalimat strategi penyelesaian soal. Subjek berkemampuan rendah memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematis atas konsep dan fakta yang sangat minim dan penuh keragu-raguan serta menggunakan sedikit ciri umum prosedur penyelesaian soal.
