Penggerek batang padi Chilo suppressalis Walker.
This study aimed to identify the types of stem borer pests attacking rice plants in Kendekan Village, East Walenrang District, Luwu Regency. The research was conducted from March to July 2026 using an exploratory method with purposive sampling. Observations were carried out on two rice plots: Plot A, utilizing the direct seeding method (Tabela), and Plot B, utilizing the transplanting method (Tapin). Within each plot, ten observation sub-plots were established in a diagonal arrangement. Each sub-plot consisted of three rice clumps sampled for observation; the sequence began with the clump nearest the diagonal starting point and concluded at the thirtieth clump, resulting in a total of 60 clumps observed across all plots. Sampling was performed using light traps and sweep nets, alongside direct observation of adult insects. Data were analyzed descriptively based on the morphological characteristics of the identified species. The results revealed the presence of three species of rice stem borers at the study site: the white rice stem borer (Scirpophaga innotata Walker), the yellow rice stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas Walker), and the striped rice stem borer (Chilo suppressalis Walker).
