Abstract

The phyllosphere is the entire surface of the plant, especially the leaves, which are the colonization sites for various microorganisms. Among several types of phyllosphere microbes, fungi have several important roles because they can be found in the form of epiphytic fungi on the leaf surface and endophytic fungi in leaf tissue. The purpose of this study was to obtain isolates of leaf phyllosphere fungi in corn. This study was conducted in Mungkajang District, Palopo City for sampling and continued at the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andi Djemma University. Identification was carried out at the Disease Laboratory of the Maros Cereal Plant Instrument Standard Testing Center. It was carried out from May to August 2025. This study used an exploratory method, by inventorying fungi found in the phyllosphere of corn plants. Healthy corn leaf samples were cut 0.5 cm long and placed into sterile 10 ml containers and then labeled. Fungi growing around leaf cuttings planted on PDA media were then purified to obtain pure colonies, then identified using the fungal identification key using the book Illustrated Genera of Imperfect Fungi 4th Edition by Barnett and Hunter (1998) to the genus level. The results of the exploration of phyllosphere fungi in corn plants obtained 10 fungal isolates grouped into three genera, namely Penicillium sp., Aspergillus sp., and Culvularia sp.
