Abstract
Tujuan penelitian yakni mengetahui sejauh mana siswa mampu menjawab soal-soal HOTS berbasis NEA ditinjau dari teori Polya dengan menggunakan keahlian matematikanya. Siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 10 Kota Serang menjadi subjek penelitian. Wawancara dan ujian tertulis digunakan dalam pengumpulan data. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Alat tes dan wawancara digunakan dalam proyek studi untuk mengumpulkan informasi. Analisis Kesalahan Newman digunakan untuk menilai hasil tes setelah teori Polya digunakan untuk meninjau hasil tes siswa. Berdasarkan nilai ujian, siswa dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok berprestasi tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Untuk setiap kategori kemampuan, akan dipilih satu orang peserta sebagai subjek penelitian berdasarkan hasil tes. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan keterampilan pemahaman yang tinggi dapat menyelesaikan pertanyaan hampir seluruhnya tanpa membuat kesalahan apa pun. Untuk siswa dengan kemampuan sedang, belum cukup mampu untuk menjawab soal karena beberapa kali keliru dalam menentukan rumus yang tepat. Siswa dengan kemampuan rendah belum dapat menjawab soal dikarenakan tidak memiliki pemahaman yang cukup.
