Manuscript Withdrawl

Manuscript Withdrawal Policy

Jurnal Onoma: Pendidikan, Bahasa dan Sastra

1. General provisions

Jurnal Onoma: Pendidikan, Bahasa dan Sastra respects authors’ right to request withdrawal of a manuscript before publication. Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing, handled transparently, and made with the knowledge of all authors to preserve the integrity of the editorial process and avoid uncertainty regarding manuscript status.

Before submission, authors are encouraged to ensure that their manuscript is ready, that all authors approve its submission, and that it falls within the journal’s scope. A manuscript must not be submitted simultaneously to another journal while it remains under editorial consideration at Jurnal Onoma: Pendidikan, Bahasa dan Sastra

2. Withdrawal before formal acceptance

Authors may request withdrawal during initial screening, peer review, or revision, before the manuscript has been formally accepted.

Clear and valid requests will be respected. Editors may seek clarification or confirmation of author agreement to establish the validity of a request, but clarification procedures will not be used to delay withdrawal without reasonable grounds.

Reasons for withdrawal may include significant errors in data or analysis, the need for substantial revision, authorship concerns, research ethics issues, or other reasons explained by the authors. These explanations are used for editorial documentation rather than to obstruct a valid withdrawal request.

3. Withdrawal after acceptance but before publication

Requests submitted after formal acceptance but before publication must include a clear explanation and confirmation that all authors agree to the withdrawal.

The Editor-in-Chief will review the request, taking into account the production stage, the reasons provided, applicable publishing agreements, and implications for scholarly integrity. The decision and any follow-up actions will be communicated to the corresponding author in writing.

Where a request concerns serious errors or ethical issues, production may be suspended during the review to prevent publication of potentially problematic content.

4. Request procedure

The corresponding author must submit the withdrawal request through the OJS discussion feature or the journal’s official email address: [journal email address].

The request must include:

  1. Manuscript title.
  2. OJS manuscript identification number.
  3. Names of all authors.
  4. Name and contact details of the corresponding author.
  5. Reason for withdrawal.
  6. A statement confirming that all authors are aware of and agree to the withdrawal.
  7. Date of the request.

Editors may seek direct confirmation from other authors where author agreement is unclear or an authorship dispute exists. Any dispute will be handled separately and will not be considered resolved solely because the manuscript has been withdrawn.

5. Confirmation and manuscript status

The journal aims to provide an initial response within five working days of receiving a request. Where additional review time is required, authors will be informed of the request’s status.

Withdrawal will be recorded in the editorial system and confirmed to the corresponding author in writing. Authors should obtain this confirmation before submitting the manuscript elsewhere to avoid uncertainty regarding its status or simultaneous submission.

If confirmation has not been received, authors may follow up with the Editor-in-Chief through the journal’s official contact channel.

6. Withdrawal fees

Jurnal Onoma: Pendidikan, Bahasa dan Sastra does not impose a specific manuscript withdrawal fee or penalty.

Where publication-related payments have already been made, refunds are governed by the journal’s separately published publication-fee policy. That policy must be available to authors before payment.

7. Published articles

Articles published online, including online-first or early-view articles, form part of the scholarly record and are not treated as manuscripts eligible for withdrawal under this procedure.

Requests concerning published articles are handled under the journal’s correction, retraction, or other applicable editorial policies. Retraction will not be issued solely because authors wish to move an article to another journal or no longer wish it to remain published.

In exceptional circumstances involving legal obligations, privacy violations, or serious safety risks, access restrictions or content removal may be considered following the publisher’s assessment and applicable requirements.

8. Documentation and publication integrity

The journal retains withdrawal requests, correspondence, and decisions in accordance with its data-retention and editorial confidentiality policies. Withdrawn manuscripts are not published as journal articles.

Manuscript withdrawal does not automatically terminate the handling of suspected ethical misconduct. Where necessary, editors may continue an assessment or communicate with relevant parties under publication ethics procedures, while maintaining confidentiality and allowing authors an opportunity to respond.
