Kerusakan lingkungan dan penurunan kualitas air pada air sungai, danau dan waduk dapat terjadi akibat adanya pembuangan limbah cair yang bersumber dari kegiatan domestik dan industrri. Salah satu pencemaran logam berat pada limbah cair di sungai yaitu kromium (Cr). Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui isolat bakteri indigenous yang berasal dari air Sungai Deli Medan yang memiliki kemampuan mereduksi kromium (Cr) dan mengetahui potensinya sebagai agen bioremediasi. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian eksperimental dengan menggunakan rancangan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa dari 14 isolat bakteri hasil isolasi bakteri terdapat 7 isolat bakteri yang memiliki kemampuan dalam mereduksi kadar logam berat kromium (Cr) dan 3 isolat bakteri dengan kemampuan mereduksi kadar logam berat kromium (Cr) yaitu isolat BAI 08 dari genus Pseudomonas (94,03%), isolat BAI 10 dari genus Micrococcus (96,43%), dan isolat BAI 14 dari genus Bacillus (97,39%). Bakteri indigenous yang berasal dari air Sungai Deli Medan mampu menjadi agen bioremediasi pada logam berat kromium (Cr).
