Pemertahanan bahasa berkaitan erat dengan identitas budaya, di mana bahasa sering kali menjadi simbol dari identitas suatu komunitas. Oleh karena itu, sosiolinguistik membantu memahami dinamika pemertahanan bahasa, seperti faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan suatu bahasa bisa bertahan atau bahkan terancam punah.peneitian ini di maksudkan untuk memahami dinamika penggunaan Bahasa Makassar di Kelurahan Bontokio, Kabupaten Pangkep, serta faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pemertahanannya.penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang di fokuskan untuk memahami secara mendalam dinamika pemertahanan Bahasa Makassar di Kelurahan Bontokio, Kabupaten Pangkep.penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemertahanan Bahasa Makassar di Kelurahan Bontokio dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor signifikan. Pergeseran bahasa lebih cepat terjadi di kalangan generasi muda yang lebih sering menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Keluarga memainkan peran kunci dalam memperkenalkan dan melestarikan Bahasa Makassar,serta tantangan dalam proses pemertahanan Bahasa Makassar di Kelurahan Bontokio terlihat dari pergeseran signifikan dalam penggunaannya, di mana Bahasa Makassar semakin terbatas pada situasi tertentu, seperti acara adat dan tradisional, sementara generasi muda lebih memilih menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, terutama dalam ranah formal seperti sekolah dan pekerjaan. Ketidakseimbangan penggunaan bahasa antar generasi, minimnya dukungan dari institusi pendidikan dan media, serta tekanan sosial dan modernisasi, semakin memperburuk pelestarian bahasa ini
