Abstract

Junior high school students' mathematical problem-solving ability in Indonesia remains low, as reflected in the 2022 PISA results, which are far below the international average, indicating the need for an innovative learning medium capable of strengthening this competency in line with the demands of twenty-first century learning. One innovative approach that can support this ability is the use of Scratch as a visual programming-based learning medium. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Scratch in supporting junior high school students’ mathematical problem-solving ability. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The study followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. A total of 15 relevant articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected and analyzed. The findings indicate that Scratch contributes positively to mathematics learning by facilitating concept visualization, increasing student engagement, and supporting the development of computational thinking skills closely related to mathematical problem-solving. Furthermore, Scratch provides interactive learning experiences that encourage students to think systematically when solving mathematical problems. These findings suggest that Scratch has considerable potential as an innovative learning medium for improving the quality of mathematics education at the junior high school level.
