The sugar palm (Arenga pinnata Wurmb Merr) has high economic value, but its development still faces many obstacles due to long seed dormancy and low germination uniformity. This study aims to determine the effect of scarification and gibberellin (GA3) administration on sugar palm seed germination. This study was conducted at the Seed Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from March to August 2022 using a factorial completely randomized design (CRD) method, namely scarification methods (sandpaper, hand grinder, and bench grinder) and gibberellin concentrations (0, 50, 100, and 150 ppm). The parameters observed included apocol length, celeopetile length, time to first leaf emergence, and primary root length. Data were analyzed using the F test followed by the DNMRT test at a 5% level. The results showed that scarification and gibberellin treatment did not significantly affect apocole length, coleoptile length, time to first leaf emergence, and primary root length. However, gibberellin treatment at a concentration of 150 ppm significantly affected coleoptile length.
