Pengaruh Penambahan Minyak Kelapa (Cocos nucifera) terhadap Laju Transmisi Uap Air dan Biodegradabilitas Edible Film Berbasis Eucheuma cottonii

Edible film berbasis rumput laut merupakan salah satu alternatif kemasan pangan ramah lingkungan yang berpotensi menggantikan plastik konvensional. Namun, karakter hidrofilik karagenan dari Eucheuma cottonii menyebabkan sifat barrier terhadap uap air masih relatif rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penambahan minyak kelapa (Cocos nucifera) terhadap laju transmisi uap air dan biodegradabilitas edible film berbasis Eucheuma cottonii. Edible film dibuat menggunakan ekstrak rumput laut dengan variasi komposisi gliserol dan minyak kelapa, kemudian dikarakterisasi melalui pengujian laju transmisi uap air dan biodegradabilitas menggunakan metode soil burial test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai laju transmisi uap air edible film berada pada kisaran 0,0021–0,0032 g/cm²/jam. Perlakuan dengan perbandingan gliserol dan minyak kelapa 1:1 menghasilkan nilai laju transmisi uap air terendah, yaitu 0,0025 ± 0,0009 g/cm²/jam, yang mengindikasikan sifat barrier terhadap uap air lebih baik dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya. Selain itu, seluruh sampel edible film mengalami biodegradasi sempurna dalam waktu tiga hari selama pengujian di dalam tanah. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penambahan minyak kelapa mampu meningkatkan sifat barrier terhadap uap air tanpa mengurangi kemampuan biodegradasi edible film, sehingga formulasi ini berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai bahan kemasan pangan yang ramah lingkungan.
