Pendidikan pada abad ke-21 menuntut pengembangan keterampilan abad 21 yang meliputi berpikir kritis, berpikir kreatif, pemecahan masalah, komunikasi, dan kolaborasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kemampuan berpikir kritis pada pembelajaran kimia. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur dengan mengumpulkan artikel-artikel terkait yang telah dipublikasikan dalam lima tahun terakhir. Studi literatur ini menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan keterampilan abad ke-21, terutama keterampilan berpikir kritis, kreatif, dan pemecahan masalah dalam pembelajaran kimia, dapat dilakukan melalui berbagai pendekatan dan model pembelajaran. Penggunaan media berbasis teknologi informasi, seperti e-learning dan e-modul, serta model pembelajaran yang disesuaikan dengan karakteristik peserta didik, seperti Problem Based Learning (PBL) dan Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT), dapat meningkatkan keterampilan tersebut. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa keterampilan abad 21, terutama berpikir kritis, dapat ditingkatkan melalui penggunaan berbagai metode dan media pembelajaran, seperti e-learning, Problem Based Learning (PBL), dan discovery learning. Selain itu, penggunaan tes open-ended problem, pembelajaran berbasis TPACK, dan pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) juga terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran kimia.
